Monday 1st October – This, that and the other   Leave a comment

So up early this morning to set up the environment, before heading off to pick up first mindee from home at 6:30am.

I decided to put the huge collection of duplo in the lounge to support small world play and construction skills and of course imagination.

In the middle room wooden blocks and a few wooden bowls and baskets  of heuristic type ‘things’. In the conservatory I added to the continuous provision a large basket of materials, and on the table a magnetic wand colour maze,  a wooden shape sorter (sizes, colours and shapes) and some magnetic boards with magnetic shapes (transport, homes, animals in different colours)

No guessing needed to work out that the table activities have a bit of a colour theme!

Erin being the first here got stuck in and made collections of ceramic discs in the bowls.

Alex was very interested in the pictures that Penny was printing – he noticed that it was the rickety rackety bridge at the arboretum – and there before his eyes out of the printer came a picture of the other rickety rackety bridge. Alex is a very observant boy – and had noticed the laminator was in the kitchen – he has a good knowledge of laminators and knows it is hot – he also knows that Penny laminates pictures from the printer. So we laminated the photo’s and stuck them on the wall next to our art work and posters to do with The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Shona made a ‘rickety Rackety bridge out of duplo – and ‘displayed’ it on the sofa for Penny to take a photo!

Interest switch to the table activities – with Alex in particular showing an interest in the transport magnetic shapes. Archie was the last to arrive and he made straight for the duplo tractors.

Then late morning before lunch we all put our shoes on and set off to the local DIY store to buy some compost (to plant our bulbs) and to look for some blue paint ‘shade cards’ (cut into each different shade, laminate, hole punch, put on key ring thing) great for colour work, use in free play, outside looking at nature and so on)

Fate was at hand though – as I had cash in my pocket from Erin’s mum paying that morning – and so we came back with two strawberry plants – reduced of course, a tray of mini winter pansies – yes reduced, two large plants with yellow flowers – return each year – donation to charity suggested at 20p per plant (I gave 50p each), some compost-  not reduced, the colour cards – free – and then fate lad me down the storage aisle – and yes – because not looking for it – there it was the type of storage unit that I have been looking for – well for ages. It was not reduced – with the things already in the trolley it was just about all the cash I had on me – so I ………… no of course I did not leave it on the shelf – I brought it – oh and almost forgot a new toilet seat for my en suite loo (silly house no loo downstairs but two upstairs)

And home we all went – dropping the pansies and the yellow flowers on the car park as trying to manage a trolley full of things I didn’t go to buy and 4 mindees was asking for it really – and of course the mindees safety had to come first.

After lunch and nap( during which Penny fits the toilet seat and assembles the storage unit)  we venture outside to do some planting – yellow flowers into a big tub, pansies into a surplus play tub .

But  before we can do anymore it starts to rain heavily so we decide to leave the rest of the planting for another day and go inside to fill the containers in the new storage unit.
