Tuesday 15th January – Penny appears to be surplus to requirements!   6 comments

Penny is of course supervising the children and responding verbally – but apart from that the children really don’t ‘need’ Penny at the moment!

Their verbal comments are all on the same theme

‘Look at this’ ‘ Look what I made’ ‘Take a picture, Penny’

And the reason?

THE WOODEN BLOCKS HAVE ARRIVED

The children have been exploring and building for over an hour now – and although we have had a few squeals of ‘He / she is knocking my tower’ and ‘I want that one’ – on the whole peace and quiet has descended – so much so that Penny has a HOT coffee to hand and is writing up this blog (mind you Penny is itching to play but knows she will have to wait until the children have are ready to make room for Penny on the lounge floor!)

I think for now I will let the photo’s tell the story

  1. Looks like much fun and learning happening Penny. These are one of my favourite resources.
We also recommend this book http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/education-and-careers/early-years-and-childcare/resources/block-play-book/ Happy block playing!

    Happy block playing!

    • Thank you for the book recommendation – I will look into that.

We already have a large selection of much smaller blocks, and a good selection of those blocks with inserts such as mirrors etc.

These larger blocks have been on my wish list for years – would have loved to buy the community playthings range – but out of the price range for a sole practitioner. So when my friend Carol pointed this set out to me – I just had to buy them!

  3. Those bricks are fabulous, Penny! Where are they from?
